#3:
My feelings on this subject are somewhat more tangled now than when I originally
began this essay. When Ellen and I were shopping in Paris, I found myself thinking
about buying a dress, even looking at some tempting ones, although in the end
I didn't do it. But recently, as my style as evolved once again, I've discovered
an attraction to long chemises that I wear over pants. Pen says, "I don't
get this look at all. If you want to wear a dress, just wear a dress, and if
you don't, don't!" But what's interesting to me is that I don't experience
it as that kind of contradiction; I still see myself as wearing a "shirt"
of some sort over pants.
